Manon des Sources
Set some years after Jean de Florette, the conclusion of Berri's intense two-part drama focuses on Jean's now grown-up daughter Manon (Emmanuelle Beart) and the plan she orchestrates when she accidentally learns the identities of the men who drove her father to his death. Exquisitely written (the conclusion is extremely satisfying) and acted, Manon des Sources moves along at a much brisker pace than its predecessor, intertwining the fates of four generations of locals in one village. Beart brings beauty and emotional depth to her pivotal role, and she is ably supported by veteran Montand, and a cast of familiar faces.
