One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

More than 40 years after Jack Nicholson immortalised the role of Randle P McMurphy in Milos Forman's Oscar-winning film, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest swoops into selected cinemas for a welcome re-release. Indian chief Bromden (Will Sampson) heralds the arrival of cocksure rebel and petty criminal McMurphy to the mental facility, whose lively presence encourages the other patients - including erudite Harding (William Redfield), wildly delusional Martini (Danny DeVito) and nervous Cheswick (Sydney Lassick) - to misbehave. Fiery Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), who oversees treatment and the group therapy sessions, doesn't take kindly to McMurphy's disruptive influence, and she gladly enters into a war of words and guile with the new arrival. At first, it seems as if Randle has got the better of the ward sister, carefully exploiting loopholes in the rules for his own gain. But the further he pushes Nurse Ratched, the closer he comes to his own spectacular downfall.
