The Sound of Music
The Oscar-winning mega-blockbuster that defined a whole generation of musicals returns to the big screen as a glorious 4K restoration alongside a lustrous 70mm print, which will begin a UK tour on May 18 starting at the BFI Southbank in London. Julie Andrews stars as the Austrian nun-turned-nanny Maria, who takes control of several unruly children belonging to widowed naval officer Captain Georg Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). The new governess rebuilds bridges between the captain and his brood and fans the flames of romance between eldest child Liesl (Charmian Carr) and local delivery boy Rolfe (Daniel Truhitte). Peggy Wood and Eleanor Parker co-star in this rousing film version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, with a songbook that includes Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev'ry Mountain and So Long Farewell.
