Zarafa

Loosely inspired by historical fact, Zarafa is a charming animated adventure involving a young boy and an orphaned giraffe, co-directed by Remi Bezancon and Jean-Christophe Lie. Sudanese boy Maki (voiced by Max Renaudin) is a valuable commodity in the French slave trade and he quakes in the shadow of his 'owner', Moreno (Thierry Fremont). Thankfully, little Maki escapes and embarks on an extraordinary odyssey in the company of an Egyptian traveller called Hassan (Simon Abkarian) and a baby giraffe called Zarafa. En route, Maki and his companions witness the Turkish siege of the port city of Alexandria and they chart a perilous path to Paris, where they hope to use Zarafa to secure an audience with King Charles X (Roger Dumas) and persuade the monarch to dispatch his army to repel the Turkish invaders.
