Flash Gordon
"Gordon's alive?" A special 4K restoration of Mike Hodges's cult film version of the 1930s comic strip marks the 40th anniversary of the action-packed cinematic adventure. Football hero Flash Gordon (Sam J Jones) blasts off into space aboard the rocket ship of Dr Hans Zarkov (Topol) with the beautiful Dale Arden (Melody Anderson). The craft is drawn into the orbit of planet Mongo, which is ruled with an iron fist by Emperor Ming the Merciless (Max Von Sydow). It transpires that Ming considers planet Earth to be a threat to his rule so he has been testing mankind with a series of unnatural disasters. As Ming hatches a diabolical plan to destroy Earth for good, he allows himself to be distracted by Dale and takes her as his concubine. Meanwhile, Ming's predatory daughter Princess Aura (Ornella Muti) seduces Flash. The fate of mankind rests in the hands of the warring kingdoms of Mongo led by Prince Barin (Timothy Dalton) and Prince Vultan (Brian Blessed), who join forces to overthrow Ming.
