Don't Look Now

Nicolas Roeg's seminal 1973 psychological thriller possesses the rare ability to shock and unsettle. The fragmentary narrative, coupled with the director's extensive use of visual motifs - water, glass and the colour red - imbue the picture with a palpable tension and sense of impending doom. By the time the final reel cranks into gear, tragedy appears inevitable. John and Laura Baxter (Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie) are distraught by the sudden death of their young daughter. They move to Venice to escape their all-consuming grief and in the Italian city, John and Laura cross paths with a psychic who brings them news, and a terrible warning, from beyond the grave. Suddenly, the couple witnesses a small figure in the shadows. Could it be the spectre of their dear, departed child come to comfort them, or is it something far more threatening, which feeds on their damaged emotions? The first 4K ultra-high definition restoration of Roeg's film brings Don't Look Now to a new generation.
