An American in Paris
Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron fall head over heels in love in Vincente Minnelli's Oscar-winning musical, which has been lovingly restored to its former glory exactly 60 years after the film first danced across the big screen. Former GI Jerry Mulligan (Kelly) heads to the French capital with dreams of becoming an artist like Toulouse-Lautrec and Degas. Wealthy patron Miro (Nina Foch) spots his talent and throws her considerable support behind him, only for Jerry to become smitten with pretty shop girl Lise (Leslie Caron). Alas, she already has a sweetheart, Henri (Georges Guetary), who through a twist of fate is friends with Jerry's good pal, Adam (Oscar Levant). Romantic complications abound as the characters orbit one another, culminating in a 16-minute ballet set to the unmistakable strains of Gershwin. Minnelli's iconic film includes the toe-tapping songs "I Got Rhythm", "Our Love Is Here To Stay" and "'S Wonderful".
