Royal Opera Live Encore Screening: La Boheme

Antonio Pappano conducts Richard Jones' staging of Puccini's passionate opera, a co-production with Teatro Real in Madrid and Lyric Opera of Chicago recorded live on the stage of the Royal Opera House in London. On Christmas Eve, impoverished poet Rodolfo (Michael Fabiano) meets his beautiful neighbour Mimi (Nicole Car), who has misplaced her key. There is an immediate attraction, and in the moonlight, the young couple declare their love for one another. They celebrate by sharing a meal at nearby Cafe Momus with Rodolfo's friends: Marcello the painter (Mariusz Kwiecien), Colline the philosopher (Luca Tittoto) and Schaunard the musician (Florian Sempey). As Mimi's health deteriorates, so too does the relationship - Rodolfo's jealousy gradually destroys any trust between the couple. As a result, Rodolfo seeks lodgings with Marcello and his girlfriend Musetta (Simona Mihai) at the village tavern.
