Mildred Pierce is a doting mother driven to the brink of murder. Teased by her demanding eldest daughter Veda about the family's lack of money, Mildred agrees to marry wealthy property owner Monte Beragon. However, Mildred soon discovers that Veda is having an affair with Monte.
