Lyric Theatre
The Lyric Theatre is Bridport's newest/oldest theatre. We are a completely independent, unfunded and individual venue where you'll find quirky theatre, puppetry, comedy and music.
The Lyric's team includes owners Niki McCretton and Marc Parrett, theatre manager Tessa Bide and our resident apprentice-puppet makers Marta Gemma and Emily Faulkner. We moved in in September 2010 and have since worked to get the building up and running as an artist-led venue and hire-able space for creative people to come and make their work.
We have a puppet workshop upstairs where Marc, Marta and Emily are making puppets for Stuff and Nonsense (Marc and Niki's Theatre Company) and where we run our 'puppet club' from - a hugely popular workshop for budding puppet makers/puppeteers ranging in age from 7 to 60.
Downstairs is our kitchen, office, toilets and beautiful , flock wall-papered auditorium complete with proscenium arch, stage, donated grand piano and remove-able dance floor for classes.
We're running the theatre as a spontaneous venue for artists to create and showcase their work in. If you're interested in bringing your work to the Lyric or in hiring it, please e-mail admin@the-lyric.com or call 01308 423951.
