Ropewalk Community Garden
The Ropewalk Community Garden, behind the Neighbourhood Advice Centre, in Derby Road, Southampton, was funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, the Southampton Regeneration Partnership and the Environment Centre, to provide a peaceful green space in the inner city for local residents of all ages. The garden also provides a venue for outdoor events.
The garden was developed on the site of an old ropemaking factory and is full of interactive activities, which it is hoped will bring together members of the local community from all ethnicities and ages. There are tactile plants and small 'doing places' for local groups of volunteers to contribute to the garden and work together.
