Nottingham Castle commands spectacular views over the city and once rivalled the great Castles of Windsor and the Tower of London. Totally destroyed after the Civil War, it was replaced by a magnificent Ducal mansion in 1674 and in 1875 was converted into the first municipal museum and art gallery outside London. Cave tours tell this history taking you down into the tunnels. The museum contains spectacular fine and decorative arts galleries, as well as telling the story of Nottingham, the Sherwood Foresters Regimental Museum. Shop, an award-winning café and a medieval playground within its grounds. Meet You at the Lions display is a lively and fun exhibition celebrating Nottingham and the people who have made it their home.
