Capesthorne Hall

Capesthorne Hall,Macclesfield Information
Capesthorne Hall is the home of Cheshire's Lord Lieutenant, William Bromley-Davenport, whose family has governed the estate since Domesday times when they were appointed custodians of the Royal Forest of Macclesfield.

A journey through the Jacobean-style country house begins in the Entrance Hall of historical paintings, marble sculptures, English, French and Dutch antique furniture and 16th century stained glass windows.

From the Saloon, with its family portraits, bronzes and ebony furniture, the Sculpture Gallery crosses over to the Queen Anne Room which features a monumental fireplace and heraldic mantelpiece surrounded by paintings, marbles and fine porcelain.

From here an impressive staircase leads to the Upper Gallery of exhibition rooms which give further insights into Capesthorne's history - from the Royal Bedroom, American Room and Dorothy Davenport Room to the Child's Room containing treasured toys from generations of Bromley Davenport children.

In the grounds, near the family Chapel, the intricate gilded ironwork of the Italian Milanese Gates open onto the tranquil lakeside gardens. But amid the natural attraction and woodland walks Capesthorne still offers glimpses of its man-made past ... the remains of the Ice House, the Old Boat House and the curious Swallow Hole.

Guests can enjoy the treasures of Capesthorne at their own pace or through pre-booked personal Guided Tours.

The elegant interior and photogenic gardens make Capesthorne an ideal venue for wedding breakfasts and receptions, civil marriages, family celebrations and corporate occasions. And, as only one booking is accepted at any one time, private guests have exclusive access.
