	The stadium was opened on August 4, 1999, having cost �30m to construct. It is a modern all-seater stadium with a capacity of 25,138. The stadium's inauguration was marked with a friendly between Wigan Athletic and Manchester United, who were then reigning European Champions, with Sir Alex Ferguson officially opening the stadium. Wigan Athletic had spent the previous 102 years playing at Springfield Park. Wigan Warriors played their first game at the stadium on September 19, 1999 against Castleford Tigers.

	There are 2500 spaces for fans on match days, and it is very advisable to use the specified areas and not to park anywhere else in Robin Park, except on the JJB Stadium Car Parks themselves.
	There are 276 disabled spaces within the JJB Stadium. Each side of the ground has 24 disabled spaces, therefore offering a choice to the spectator. All disabled seating has lift or wheel chair access ramps, and there are disabled toilets and access ramps
